Matching cross-back aprons

Twinning with Freya is always awesome.

I've been needing a new apron for some time, and given Freya's recent addiction to "baking", I saw an opportunity to be matchy matchy on a regular basis.

I was so happy to get my hands on this beautiful Art Gallery Fabrics chambray, which was just what I had in mind for this project! I used the brand spanking new FREE AllSpice apron pattern by Hey June Handmade for my version, and you can read all about how I've crafted Freya's, and how I added those oh-so-important grow-with-me options, on the Minerva website here!

The Present Dress

"Why has Mummy turned into a present?" Exclaimed my 2 year-old daughter as I emerged with my newly sewn Ruska Knot Dress.
named clothing ruska knot dress
I'm not sure which way to take this really. Perhaps I should be pleased that the knot, which is the great design feature of this dress, was exactly that, a great feature, and one that's instantly noticeable. Or could this be that Freya had too many presents to open at Christmas, so much so that everything looks like a present now?

Anyway, Happy New Year, my dear readers. I do hope that 2021 turns out to be a better year for everyone!

I'm starting 2021 with my very own Ruska Knot dress, from the Breaking Pattern book by Named Clothing. Read how I downloaded the pattern for free (hint, check out Love Sewing Magazine website), and how I altered and constructed it without instructions on Minerva :)

With a face like this, who wouldn't want to sew more for little Freya?

This Minerva Maker project has come just in time for a growth spurt, and I'm so grateful for the super funky fabric! The pattern combo is the Elm T-shirt by Poppy & Jazz, and the (FREE) Lightning Leggings by Made by Jack's Mum. Find out more on the Minerva blog!

Double gauze cropped top

I'm back guest blogging for Minerva with this simple cropped top. I absolutely love the double gauze by Rico Designs, and enjoyed sewing up the Butterick 6182 by Lisette again (last version not blogged). Here's a little preview:

Floral culottes

To me, sewing sometimes means stepping out of my comfort zone. After living in pregnancy and breastfeeding friendly clothes for almost 2 years, I was ready to embrace the loose fitting/casual chic trend by making some culottes.

My blog post on this little number (and the cropped linen top) is live today on the Minerva blog! Go check it out!
This jazzy pair of culottes has got quite a lot of wear already (and they work a treat with my boxy top, too). The only regret that I have is not adding pockets to them. Maybe next time!

Mermaid toddler raincoat

I'm absolutely loving all the new fabrics that Rico Designs have brought out recently. Naturally I couldn't resist this quirky mermaid coated cotton, and wanted to make Freya a little raincoat. I turned to the tried and tested Ikatee Grand'ourse pattern again - see my last version here

This is another project as a Minerva Maker, and I'm so happy to be a part of the team! Read all about the project, including tips on working with coated cotton fabric here!

DIY Teepee tutorial

Who wants a little teepee? Sorry, let me rephrase that - who doesn't want a little teepee? I made one for Freya's first birthday, and seriously wanted to steal it and call it my own.

Now you can make your own, too!

Check out my step-by-step tutorial with pattern template on the Minerva blog - can't wait to see your own versions!

P.S. I can confirm that it fits a petite adult (me) with room to spare.

Geranium outfit for Freya

I couldn't resist making a sweet bumble bee outfit for Freya, and adding those flutter sleeves to show off her chubby little arms.

This is another Minerva Maker project, and I'm really loving being part of the team!
Made by Rae geranium dress top flutter sleeves
You may have guessed it - the pattern was the Made by Rae Geranium, and you can read all about the ups and downs of the project on the Minerva site here

Spoiler alert - I appear to be the only one in the universe that didn't fall head over heels for this pattern. Trust me, it was not easy to be even slightly critical over an indie pattern, especially one that has basically reached "cult" status. On the other hand, it is also important to me that I am completely honest in my reviews. As an attempt to be constructive, I will try and post a tutorial to improve the back closure issue when I next make this pattern.

I made the matching nappy cover using this free pattern, and would highly recommend it.

Sewaholic Robson Trench

My husband: Do you think you could turn my new suit trousers up?
Me: I don't think I'm skilled enough to do that I'm afraid.
Also me: Hey, look at my latest make...
Entering - my new Robson Trench!

This is my first make as a proud Minerva Maker. Read all about the making of the trench on Minerva here

And yes, as a loving wife and mother of his child, of course I did turn up the suit trousers. Two pairs!
